Dennis,
Just wanted to drop you a note about
my RS1. It arrived in Minnesota in
good shape and got a chance to run
it through its paces today. As you
know, I’m upgrading from a Sony hs51
and I am extremely pleased with the
upgrade. I don’t know if you have a
demo unit yet, but the contrast of
this projector really gives the
image a 3D pop combined with good
light output. The increase in
resolution gives the image razor
sharp detail. I’ve read several
online reviews of this unit and
started to get a little nervous
about some of the “defects” of this
projector. After seeing this
projector in action, some people
must have eyes of superman, or must
be way too retentive to enjoy this
hobby. My projector has mild
“Brighter” corners that I have read
about (My HS51 has this too). I
don’t see any shading or uniformity
problems. Setting were dead on out
of the box. Convergence was also
very good throughout the image. Fan
noise is louder than my HS51, but
only hear it in quiet scenes. The
fan has a slight hum that comes in
and out, seems that the fan may
vibrate as it is running. Another
problem I’ve read about on the
internet is that this projector
shows too much grain if the source
material has it and video noise
present in darker images. This
initially made me nervous, because
one thing I’ve always liked about
Sony projectors were they did a good
job of showing a “smooth” image and
reduced any compression artifacts.
I am happy to report, that the RS1
does not show any excessive noise or
graininess. I thought I would give
you some of my initial impressions,
given you may get asked about these
concerns.
Thanks again and I hope JVC follows
through with a large shipment so you
can get your preorders filled.
